As summer begins, we all can’t wait to put our boats in the water and enjoy the season. But it’s important to make sure that when you launch your boat, it is in tip-top shape and ready to take on these summer months. The first thing that you should do before or soon after your boat is put in the water, is to have it waxed and detailed. This will protect your boat from the harsh environments that the ocean can sometimes offer.
Waxing your boat is especially important in maintaining the gelcoat and paint. Keep in mind that your vessel should be waxed every two months, not just at the beginning of the season. One of the main advantages to having your boat waxed is that it stops the sun from oxidizing the gelcoat and the paint. This can be a major issue, but it can easily be avoided. Waxing also protects the gelcoat and paint from things such as sea salt, and bird droppings which can cause staining.
If you have your boat detailed and waxed at the beginning of the season, you can avoid many unnecessary repair costs down the road. As the season goes on, remember to keep up with the maintenance of your boat, and this should help limit any problems that could arise throughout the season. Let’s hope for some great summer days, and get out on the water!
